It is said that Mozart relished piano duels and public improvisation. The art of ad libcomposing, which reached its peak in the 18th century, is making a comeback today with the astonishing performer Fazil Say. This Turkish pianist is as passionate about classical repertoire as he is about jazz and composition. And what an extraordinary composer he is! His pieces are an explosive blend of crazy rhythms, dazzling colours, and styles which fuse erudite composition with folk elements. They are first and foremost entertainment – serious works, which nevertheless reconnect with the spirit of Mozart, a spirit with which Sir Roger Norrington and the musicians of the Orchestre de chambre de Paris are more than familiar.
