Roger Muraro piano
Roger Muraro injects fresh life into Schumann's Forest Scenes and the very rare transcription of the Symphonie fantastique by Berlioz
Schumann Scènes de la forêt op. 82
Berlioz Symphony Fantastique op. 14a (transcription by Franz Liszt)
After studying under the rigorous Yvonne Loriod, Roger Muraro has specialised in lengthy, highly elaborate scores, which would be quite beyond the reach of many other pianists. Monumental works by Messiaen, for example, hold no secrets for him and Liszt’s admirable transcription of the Symphonie fantastique by Berlioz – some passages of which verge on the unplayable – have found a standard-bearer in him. It is moreover in this form that the Romantic masterpiece was first known, well before the orchestral version. We are convinced that the French virtuoso will faithfully transcribe Forest Scenes, one of Schumann’s most darkly enigmatic works, by way of introduction.
