The Japanese choreographer likes to say: “My primary job is not to place the bodies in a fixed choreographic structure, but to guide them and to let the movement emerge.” He is motivated by trying to find meaning in movement, developing his own idiom and offering it to his performers so that they can embrace it in turn. Behind his silences, Saburo Teshigawara is a generous artist who likes to share. He is also a one-man band who enjoys taking part in every aspect of shows. He is primarily a choreographer, but is keen to get involved in staging, lighting and costumes and even the libretto, as it was for the adventure of the opera Solaris by his compatriot Dai Fujikura. There is permanent and ceaseless desire to explore dance as a blank canvas open to every possibility.
