This "haute couture" ball immerses us in the era of the Roaring Twenties and the Ballets Russes
« Le bal de la haute-couture »
Garayev Les sept beautés
Stravinsky Pulcinella, orchestral suite
Poulenc Les Biches
Thilloy Le parfum, orchestral suite
Debussy Les Nocturnes
The Orchestre Lamoureux will be dressed to the nines to present the most beautiful classical works in the French, Russian, and Azeri repertoires. Stravinsky’s passionate Pulcinella will take centre-stage, together with a full performance of Azeri composer Gara Garayev’s majestic ballet, Seven Beauties. This frenzied dance through the throes of turbulent passion will be followed by the symphonic triptych of Debussy’s Nocturnes.
Thomas Bloch will pair Pierre Thilloy’s work Le Parfum with a rare and unusual instrument: the ondes Martenot. A precursor of electronic music, it was unveiled at the Opéra de Paris in 1928, before being deployed by classical composers such as Honegger, Jolivet and Messiaen. This sophisticated combination is sure to captivate listeners. Les Biches, a glittering work by Francis Poulenc, will form the final tableau of this ball of bold and bewitching sounds.
