Scale the dizzy heights of Brahms's virtuoso Concerto for Violin to reach Beethoven's joyful Symphony No.2

Beethoven  Namensfeier, overture
Brahms  Violin concerto
Beethoven  Symphony No. 2

The brilliant Esa-Pekka Salonen brings back the Philharmonia orchestra with a high standard programme of all time classical favourites, joined for this performance of Brahms’ concerto by talented young violinist Arabella Steinbacher. With its highly virtuosic solo part and richly melodic orchestral score, this major Romantic work is reputed to be one of the most difficult in the concert repertoire. Like her fellow countrywoman Julia Fischer (who shared the same extraordinary teacher, Ana Chumachenko, in Munich), Arabella Steinbacher has been a star in the global firmament of violinists for several years. Her lyrical yet fiery playing blends technique and sensitivity. This concert has all the makings of one of the great evenings of the symphony season.
