Anne Sofie von Otter and Laurent Naouri bring to life monsters, witches and magicians from Rameau, Lully and Charpentier's Baroque operas

Monsters, witches and wizards II

Rameau, Lully, Charpentier, Leclair  Arias from Médée, Armide, Dardanus, Hippolyte et Aricie, Castor et Pollux, Scylla et Glaucus...

From Lully to Charpentier, Leclair and Rameau, Anne-Sofie von Otter and Laurent Naouri will explore the deadly curses and dark plots of the great villains of opera, from the witch Medea to the magician Ismenor and the enchantress Circe.
Storms, fires, dreams and apparitions by dei ex machina - Baroque theatre had any number of tricks at its disposal to delight composers and audiences alike enamoured of extravagant effects. These scenes also offered an opportunity to enjoy breaching musical conventions, with elements banned from treatises on composition. Moments of madness and delirium still exert a fascination today with their dramatic power and ability to allow free rein to the forces of mystery, magic and the struggle between Good and Evil. Emmanuelle Haïm, the conductor of the Concert d'Astrée, will guide the singers with verve and vigour through the labyrinth of these great musical works.
