With his crystal-clear tone and supple, agile voice, Philippe Jaroussky is the greatest countertenor of his generation. His consummate technical mastery and disarming ease allow him to achieve the most bold and risky nuances.
Constantly on the lookout for exciting discoveries and unfamiliar splendours, he is preparing a brilliant recital full of surprises, following in the footsteps of two 17th century Venetian composers. The "Seicento" was the glittering era of the two great geniuses Claudio Monteverdi and Francesco Cavalli, whose famous lamenti will be performed by the countertenor with a lightness and magnetism which will suspend the passage of time. This century was a galaxy spangled with unjustly overlooked musical stars such as Barbara Strozzi, Antonio Sartorio and Agostino Steffani, whose melodic imagination and surprising sense of drama alone make them worthy of a recital. This programme aims to put all of these exceptional composers in the spotlight!
