Hugely talented pianist Christian Zacharias has succeeded in moving into a conducting role, where many soloists before him have failed. Mozart concertos provided his first combined foray in the 1990s, when he both performed on the keyboard and conducted from the rostrum. Since then, he has embarked on many other symphonic ventures, including in the orchestra pit. However, he has never forsaken his first loves – Chopin and Scarlatti. This programme reflects his personality – refined and cultivated with a touch of whimsy. The nuanced clarity and purity of his playing is sure to light up the evening.
