Fazil Say  piano
Piano aux Champs-Elysées

An extraordinary blend of sounds, colours and rhythms in ever-inventive performances by a truly great pianist in exile

Beethoven  Sonate No. 17 op. 31 n° 2 « La Tempête »
Debussy  Six Préludes, Book I
Satie  Gymnopédies
Say  Sonate Gezi Park 2

Flamboyant performer Fazil Say is not an instrumentalist who is content to simply read a score, however perfect it may be. According to this Turkish pianist, performance goes hand in glove with re-evaluating established conventions and constantly challenging texts. An enemy of dogma, his relish for freedom is perfectly attuned to the unfettered lyricism of The Tempest, one of Beethoven’s finest sonatas. Debussy’s poetic and colourful images, and the secret and magnetic immobility of Satie’s short pieces will pave the way for Fazil Say’s own opus 52 composed in 2014. He is an uncompromising all-round artist, skilled in the art of risk-taking, with an intense stage presence.
